Eating or underfeeding?
Of course, the reverse process can also take place – the animal’s underfeeding, which leads to starvation and depletion (cachexia) of the pet with all the ensuing consequences. But such cases are not as common as overfeeding cats.
Feeding in excess of feed is not so scary if no disturbances are observed on the part of the digestive tract. Even systematic overfeeding is much better than regular fasting, in which the cat can become seriously ill after a few days.
But usually a hungry cat is perceived by the responsible owners as evil, and a long refusal to feed and excessive thinness of the animal will almost certainly make the owner sound the alarm. In the case of overfeeding the pet and gaining excess weight, the owners are not so worried.
